Dove Day 2014 was interesting, lots of good fellows in attendance, doves not so much.

Dove Eve Dining In with some of the old guys that are no longer shooters.

We had a wonderful turnout for Dove Eve Dining and the Dove Day Shoot however it was too bad the doves did not receive the message, they did not show up as expected. The reasons for the sparseness of doves was probably due to several factors including the number of days since the opening on September one and the fact that a lot of doves in the area had been shot prior to our arrival and a front that moved in later in the day. Perhaps next year we can be a little more careful in the whole process of selecting a good place to shoot.

We had some great new folks show up for our Dove hunt and they were all gentleman hunters who fit in rather well, we enjoyed dining, storytelling and sharing experiences and a few interesting libations. My nice looking bottle of Rock and Rye whiskey with a bit of orange and honey was not a hit and most of it came home, probably to become cooking whiskey which won’t be too bad.

The group picture shows the 14 guns who took to the field in the early morning hours of darkness with great expectations that, in the end fell short. Of course if we wanted to eat birds we could have just gone to the grocery store and purchased some chickens and maybe next year we will get a dozen cornish game hens just to chunk in the air and shoot if things are too quiet.

The picture of the Dove Eve Dining In at the Section Hand John Wayne Room shows a few of the guys who due to old ancient age, 87 years old and 80 years old and some health issues like vision which preclude being able to shoot anything over two feet away allow three of our esteemed members to be absent from the early morning activities. Overall it was kind of like most of the football games the Cowboys have played for the past twenty years, it was a lot of fun to attend and we had a great time being there but the score at the end came up short this year and the doves skunked us.
