Bluff Creek Farm Gathering of the High Plains Shooters – Saturday, August 16

We will gather at the creek, Bluff Creek on Saturday the 17th of August to do a little bit of shooting and tune up for the 2014 Dove Day Hunt on September 6 in Brownwood. Keith has bunk space for lots of guys and Bluff Creek Farm out of Crawford is an easy day trip from Dallas or Austin. For those who come in on Friday evening weather permitting we might do a little fire pit cooking and sip a bit of fine whisky while we listen to the bugs.

Saturday morning before the world heats up too much we will shoot some skeet and it would not be too bad for each shooter to pick up a box of clay pigeons when you purchase your shells. I plan to shoot at least two boxes of 20 ga. just to get myself back into the groove and if I am lucky I will break a bird or two. This is a good time to experiment with choke tubes to determine which is most effective in your shotgun.

Later we will make our way over to the rifle/pistol range and set up a few targets and see if we can make some more noise. On Keith’s range rapid fire is not only allowed, it is encouraged just to see how fast you can burn some ammo. Running through a 30 round magazine with an M-1 carbine is good and with an AR it is just a little bit better. I also plan to shoot a little 9mm and some 45 with my pistols.

We do adhere to safe gun handling so please don’t load your guns until you are on the firing line ready to shoot and then make sure all guns are unloaded before you case them up for the trip home. Of course if you have a loaded pistol secured in your holster with your finger off of the trigger when you pull it out that might be all right but don’t be a jerk and shoot yourself or anyone else because that would ruin our day.
